Crayon Valentine's Day Craft

I was looking at a few blogs a while back, and I came across this very interesting idea. Taking regular crayons and baking them???? But, no one ever said that I wasn't a little wacky...so I had to try :) The kids and I had so much fun making them, and they actually turned out right. I thought I would share the instructions and photos with you. I think I am going to do these for gifts for the kids' classes for Valentine's Day. The only items you will need are crayons (old & broken are ok), and silicone bake ware.

The first thing you need to do is preheat your oven to 270 degrees. Then take all of the paper of the crayons and break apart in 3-4 pieces. This really depends on how much color you want. Place the broken pieces in your silicone bake ware. I chose hearts, but there are tons of other choices! Place your filled silicone bake ware on a cookie sheet that you have covered with foil. This will prevent any liquid getting on your oven.

Let it sit in the oven for approximately 15 minutes. I kept checking, and once it was completely melted then I removed it. If you want the colors to be separated afterwards, leave them alone and let them cool. If you want a marble effect, take a toothpick and swirl the hot liquid for a few seconds.

Let it cool. When it is cool (1 hour) you can push the hearts out very easily because the silicone is non-stick.

There is no limit to what you can do with this. Get an alphabet pan, and add an I and U, and you have your Valentine's sentiment. What is so great, is that these are completely usable. How much fun is that??? I am going to wrap a few in a cellophane bag, and create a tag that will have the sentiment and name on one side, and the recipe on the other. I will post it when I finish it.

I was thinking about Easter, and how it would be a great Easter gift. Plus, they have the Easter egg molds also.

I hope that y'all will give it a try. It is very simple, and the kids had a great time helping. Mine especially enjoyed breaking the crayons. I don't know why!!!! Plus, they are proud that they can give something out to their friends that they made. I hope that everyone is geared up for Monday. Have a Blessed week!!
